Pressure Effects in ortho-Positronium Annihilation

چکیده
In the literature on positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS) numerous papers are devoted to the temperature dependence of annihilation parameters: lifetime and relative intensity of various modes of decay. The number of studies on pressure dependence of the same parameters is in great contrast to the previously mentioned: the number is very low. The pressure studies certainly deserve more attention. Using quite moderate pressures one can observe many interesting effects. In this paper we want to describe some of them. The data presented below were obtained in positron laboratory at Marie Curie-SkÃlodowska University in Lublin. All the spectra were measured on standard fast-slow spectrometers (BaF2 crystals, dynode output) and processed using the LT programme [1].

Positronium Formation in Solid Long-Chain Alkanes
This paper represents a fragment of systematic studies on positron annihilation in solid saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes, paraffins) from C17H36 to C30H62. The Tao–Eldrup model and its extensions allow to identify the places in the crystalline structure where positronium is trapped, and estimate respective trap sizes. In the rigid phase I positronium locates mainly in two-dimensional empty spac...
متن کاملModelling of o-Ps “pick-off” Annihilation Process in Nanoporous Ceramics for Sensor Electronics
The modelling of ortho-positronium annihilation processes in nanoporous humidity-sensitive ceramics were performed using the Tao-Eldrup model. It is shown that this model is adequate for modelling “pick-off” annihilation processes in ceramic materials for sensors applications and calculation of the size of their nanopores.
متن کاملSearch for CPT-odd decays of positronium.
We have limited a CPT-violating correlation in annihilations of polarized ortho-positronium. We searched for an asymmetry in the triple correlation s-->.(k-->(1)xk-->(2)), where k-->(1) and k-->(2) are the two largest photon momenta, and s--> is the spin of the positronium. Using the Gammasphere array of Compton-suppressed high-purity germanium detectors, we detected 2.65x10(7) events of ortho-...
متن کاملInfluence of Polymer Crystallinity and Morphology on Positron Annihilation Characteristics
Some most representative results for semicrystalline polymers by positron annihilation spectroscopy method, showing the influence of crystallinity and morphology of samples on positron annihilation characteristics, are reminded. The latest finding of the author’s experiment on modified polyamide 6 is presented. The latter reveals that the interfacial zone between a lamella and an amorphous regi...
متن کاملA Comparison of Different Theoretical Models of Positron Lifetime Spectra for Polymers
The same reference positron lifetime spectra of polyurethane, measured in temperature range 112 to 390 K, were analyzed with three theoretical models: the “conventional” model with three exponential decay component of discrete values of lifetimes, a model with one discrete exponential component and two “packages” of exponentials with log-normal distribution of annihilation rates, and a model co...
